Operating reliability is the decisive criterion for fire protection systems. Perfectly functioning products are the guarantee that water will be delivered to put out a fire. We not only provide our customers with pumps but also all other equipment forming part of a fixed system for fire-fighting. We offer the necessary sprinkler pumps, pressure booster systems and all-in solutions from a single source. This shows once more that PEW can provide both custom-engineered solutions and standard systems.

All our fire pumps are capable of furnishing not less than 150% of rated capacity at head not less than 65% of the rated head. The shut off head does not exceed 120% of rated head.

PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION

The fire pump starts when the pressure in the fire sprinkler system drops below a threshold. The sprinkler system pressure drops significantly when one or more fire sprinklers are exposed to heat above their design temperature and subsequently open, releasing water. Alternately other fire hoses, reels or other fire fighting connections are opened, causing a pressure drop in the fire fighting main.

All these pumps broadly fall into 5 categories:

These systems are used for transfer of water from underground to overhead tanks in residential, commercial and industrial complexes. Sometimes in absence of the overhead tanks, Diaphragm pressure tanks accompanied by pressure switches are used which ensures constant force of water at each and every outlet.

These systems use following type of pumps for water transfer depending on the availability of space and overhead tank:-

  • 1. Submersible Borewell pumps to be installed in an inclined manner
  • 2. Centrifugal Monoblocks or Coupled sets for high head/ discharge applications
  • 3. Vertical Inline multistage pumps
THESE SYSTEMS CONSIST OF FOLLOWING COMPONENTS:-
  • 1. The pump which is the heart of the system
  • 2. Mounting stand or skid depending on the type of pump
  • 3. Control Panel with Level sensors to avoid manual intervention. They are fitted with all possible protections to ensure trouble-free operation of the pump for prolonged periods of time.
  • 4. Diaphragm tank, pressure switches, pressure gauge and different type of valves for a pressurised system.

Normally these systems have 1 or 2 working and 1 standby pump. When there are 2 working pumps the first pump starts at a higher pressure. Even then if the pressure keeps dropping then the second pump starts and they continue running till the system pressure reaches the cut-off level and both pumps are tripped off. This helps In conserving energy.

The control panel is also designed such that all 3 pumps (2w+1s) start sequentially in a cascade operation so that none of them get jammed due to lying idle for a long time.
